About Me

My name is Kristin Schuchman, and I have more than 13 years of professional writing and 10 years of graphic design experience. I have a BA in Communications from CSU, Sacramento and an MA in Journalism & Mass Communication from the University of Iowa.

From 2000 – 2003, I published Nervy Girl magazine, which won the Utne magazine award for Best New Title in 2001 and won a massive readership in Portland and beyond.

In 2006, my daughter Claire was born, and I decided I wanted to cultivate a professional existence that allowed me to spend time with my children (I also have a 4-year-old son named Eli) and continue to make a living. Finding this a challenging proposition in a full-time conventional workplace, I started Mixed Media LLC in 2006 to begin offering writing and marketing consulting services to small businesses and nonprofits.

Since starting Mixed Media, I’ve been most proud of my work with nonprofits, helping them raise funds through grants and grass roots fundraising efforts. Most recently, I’ve worked with the Montavilla Farmers Market, helping them raise $11,000 in their first year through a mixture of donation drives and local business sponsorships. I’ve also won grants for:

Tod’s Corner
Esther’s Pantry
Essential Health Clinic
Listos
The Rinehart Clinic (with Ann Blaker)
The Children’s Relief Nursery

Also, as a graphic designer, I can help you create marketing brochures, direct mail pieces, fundraising websites, and other collateral. As a writer, I can help your organization effectively articulate its strengths while planning strategically to use its resources efficiently.

Whether its writing and researching grants, planning donation drives, coordinating third party events, creating marketing materials for an existing event or brainstorming ideas for other fundraising efforts, I can further augment your current development strategies.

Call me today at 503 754 2636 for a free one-hour consultation. I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Kristin Schuchman
